Top 4 Areas In Your Home To Spring Clean

Guest blog by Eliza

Spring is the perfect time of year to get your home sorted and refreshed for the upcoming entertaining and summer season. After a cosy winter of snuggling up indoors and keeping our homes closed up, it is time to open up the windows, let the breeze flow through and start to rejuvenate your spaces. It can be hard to know where to begin when conducting a Spring clean, so today we are sharing with you our top four spaces in the home to get started with and tick off the to-do list.

Wardrobe

The wardrobe is the perfect area of the home to start with as this can change so much with the differing seasons. As you put away your big coats, jumpers and knitwear from winter be sure to go through each piece and only store items that you know you will wear next year. Then you can start sorting through the remaining items in your wardrobe that will stay for the upcoming season. We recommend starting by categorising your items into like-minded groups such as t-shirts, swimwear, jeans, skirts etc. From there we suggest going through piece by piece and asking yourself if you have worn this in the past year or do you see yourself wearing it in the future. If the answer is no, then it is straight to the donate or sell pile! Complete this step for each category including handbags and accessories and you’ll have an organised wardrobe in no time!

Linen Cupboard

Spring is the perfect time to sort through and declutter your linen cupboard as this space can build up throughout the year. Once again, it is best to categorise each item into like-minded groups such as sheets, quilt covers, towels etc and go through each piece one by one. Be sure to look for any holes, tears discolouration or items that may have stretched out of shape. Linen cupboards can often build up over the years as these items tend to last a long time due to rotation. When decluttering, it is essential to be honest with yourself and donate any quilt covers, towels or sheet sets that you know you won’t use or are no longer your style.

Under Sink Storage

The dreaded under sink storage area can cop the brunt of the household duties as we often throw things under here in a rush, items get lost in the back or unused cleaning products are left to expire. We recommend starting by taking everything out from under the sink and wiping down the surfaces to start fresh. From here it is best to sort items into categories and dispose of any that are out of date, empty or you know you will not use in the future. We love using tubs and clear drawers to store each category in to make this space more functional and to avoid clutter building up over time. Don’t forget to label with some beautiful labels to ensure things are put back in their designated area.

Pantry

Having an organised pantry not only looks beautiful, but it saves you time and money in the long run through knowing what you have and where everything is. Once again, we suggest taking all items out of the pantry and giving the space a good clean as food spills can build up over time. Check all your pantry items expiration dates as there is bound to be quite a few staples and snacks that need disposing of. From there you can start adding all your items back into the pantry. We love storing pantry staples in glass or plastic containers for easy use and categorising items such as snacks, cooking, baking etc into designated tubs.
