Interior Design Trends For 2024

Guest blog by Eliza

Here at Organised Simplicity, we not only love home organisation, but we are obsessed with home décor and interior decorating too! We love to know what is trending in interior design and incorporating this into our organisation projects, so we stay ahead of the curb. As we have just begun a fresh new year, we thought we would start 2024 off by sharing our interior design trend predictions. We’d love to know which trend is your favourite and what you can’t wait to see more of in 2024.

Parisian

The Parisian home decorating style is a classic and comes in and out of popularity time and time again. It is made up of traditional elements that stand the test of time and has a subtle colour palette that adds softness to your home. The key components of the Parisian design style are herringbone timber floors, chalky white walls, antique/aged metals, mirrored accents and a harmonious colour palette. A soft colour palette of white, beige and grey makes up the majority of this style, whilst depth is added through black wrought iron and antique brass finishes.

Chalet Chic

Australia is becoming more and more influenced by American design styles with the likes of Studio McGee’s rise in popularity. We are seeing a flow on of the Midwest American style home and chalet/mountain style design being used a lot more down under. This style uses natural elements such as timber cladding on internal walls and ceilings and feature stack stone on fireplace surrounds and entryway piers. This design style creates a very cosy and comfortable feel to the home and layering of soft furniture pieces, textural blankets and more substantial furniture pairs perfectly.

Mixing Old & New

Mixing old with new is an amazing interior design trend that is perfect in this economy where discretionary spending is at an all-time low. This trend encourages you to get creative and scour second-hand markets and antique stores to find the perfect, unique piece for you. Try adding a vintage style console table to your entryway and pairing it with a modern, round mirror for a styled look. This allows spaces to feel warm, lived-in and comfortable and avoids a cold and unwelcoming feel. You can also try styling with old and new pieces by stacking some vintage books on a shelf paired with a new candle and plant.

Deep Colours

Interior design trends often follow fashion and we have seen a wave of deep tones reign supreme in clothing trends this past year. Specifically burgundy which has been seen on the runways and is set to be a popular choice for home décor and furniture items next. Try adding a deep, contrasting cushion to your sofa or a darker lamp shade for an elevated look. If you want to embrace this trend wholeheartedly and go bold, then we love the look of a burgundy armchair or dark brown, distressed leather couch.
