Hottest Emerging Interiors Trends

Guest blog by Eliza

Interior and home decorating trends are embracing colour, pattern, shape and boldness at the moment and here at Organised Simplicity we couldn’t be happier. Today we are sharing our favourite trends we are seeing in stores and online in the interior decorating space and provide advice on how you can easily incorporate them into your own home. We would love to know which is your favourite trend and what you can’t get enough of right now!

Candy Colours

We are seeing candy colour tones emerging from all our favourite furniture and homewares stores this season. Colours such as lilac, pastel green, baby pink and sunshine yellow are popping up in a variety of homewares and soft furnishings. These fun colours can be used to bring life into your spaces and add vibrancy to an otherwise neutral room. We suggest adding a few candy-coloured cushions and throw blankets to your bed or pairing some colourful vases and candlestick holders to create a gorgeous vignette on your coffee table.

Scallops

Organic shapes and curved edges have been popular in interiors the past few years and for good reason. Soft edges allow for a calming interior, help with the flow of the space and bring softness to a room. Scalloped edges are just another way we are seeing curves brought into furniture in a fun and playful way. Scallops can be seen on furniture items such as console tables, tv units, mirrors and bedside tables. This whimsical style looks great in a timber finish to add depth to the piece and make it appear less feminine or childlike. Head to stores such as Adairs, Provincial Home Living or Temple and Webster to find the perfect scalloped piece for you.

Palm Springs Design Style

The Palm Springs interior design style is becoming more and more popular in homes today as it suits our Australian lifestyle and climate perfectly. This style is all about light and bright interiors that are functional and embrace greenery and natural light. The bright white colour palette is offset with pops of colour such as green, pink and blue for a modern and fun look. Furniture is kept quite simple in shape as the Palm Springs style encompasses mid-century modern principles which favour functionality over form. When embracing this decorating style we suggest selecting furniture that has soft edges, clean lines and uses timbers such as oak, walnut and ash.

Statement Artwork

Artwork can often be an afterthought when decorating a home, but wall art is the unsung hero of a perfectly decorated room. A beautiful piece of art allows you to draw from the colours and shapes of the piece and select homewares and furniture to compliment accordingly. We are seeing beautiful, statement artwork in bright colours and patterns becoming more and more popular in interiors at the moment. Retailers such as Oz Design, Rice Furniture and Adairs allow you to have a bold and large-scale artwork at an affordable price point. We suggest adding pieces to areas such as your entryway, above your bed, a centrepiece in your dining room or to brighten up a stairwell.
